About the Way I Work...

Over the past 26 years, I’ve provided mental health interventions to patients in crisis.  People are beautiful.  Their resilience and ability to move from giving-up to “alive and well” inspires me.  My years spent with hurting people has given me an understanding of the healing process.

Healing starts with choosing to embrace pain.  It's painful to explore honestly, painful to be teachable, and painful to follow through with the seemingly meaningless daily tasks that bring healing.  However, those who do so get better.

My therapy style is eclectic.  You come with your own story and unique needs.  At times, the best approach is a solutions focus, at other times it's best to use a psychoanalytic approach.  We will explore family systems, developmental tasks and attachment challenges, the building of boundaries and how to maintain them, family tree work, 12 steps, authenticity, community, and a simple exploration of day to day habits.  I use EMDR, walk/talk therapy, and offer kayak intensives (2 hour sessions) as needed.  We might swing at the park.  We might walk barefoot together.

Good therapy is creative and flexible - we will do what it takes to cut through the suffocating brambles and out into the meadow of healing and change.  For those wanting a Christian approach, being known by God as a foundation for healing and growth  …. these are but a few of the many approaches and tools used.

I have been married for 30 years to my friend and husband, Ted.  We have a married son and his wife, a grandson, an adult daughter, a 17 year old son and 11 year old daughter.  And one happy little dog named Lincoln.  Our family has lived in the green and grey of Snohomish for 22 years.  When I'm not walking with a client or on Mom duty, I'm writing, taking pics, swimming, hiking, laughing with a friend, or soaking up some big band tunes.
